Notes

GENERAL INFO

Aimerais is the conditional present, first- or second-person singular form of the verb aimer (to love / to like). It means “I would like / I would love” or “you would like.”

USAGE

It is commonly used to express polite requests, wishes, or hypothetical situations.

J’aimerais un café. → I would like a coffee

J’aimerais te voir. → I would like to see you

Tu aimerais venir ? → Would you like to come?

It sounds more polite and softer than the present (j’aime).

TRAPS

Do not confuse aimerais with:

aimais (imperfect) → j’aimais = I liked / I loved

aimerai (future) → j’aimerai = I will like / love

With people:

aimer = love (strong)

aimer bien = like (lighter)

Also, no preposition is needed after aimer:

J’aime ce film (not j’aime de ce film)
