Attendez is the "vous" form of the verb "attendre" (to wait). It can mean "you wait" (present tense indicative) or serve as an imperative, meaning "wait!".

USAGE

You use it to tell someone (formally, or multiple people) to pause: "Attendez!" (Wait!). Or in questions: "Vous attendez le bus?" (Are you waiting for the bus?). It often implies "hold on" or "just a moment".

TRAPS

Don't confuse attendez with "entendez" (you hear/hear!), which comes from "entendre" (to hear). Their pronunciations are similar, but their meanings are very different.
