celle
the one (used alone or with relative clauses, e.g. 'celle qui...')
J'aime bien ta photo, mais je préfère celle que tu as postée hier.
I like your photo, but I prefer the one you posted yesterday.
Notes
GENERAL INFO
Celle means "that one" or "the one" (feminine singular). It is a demonstrative pronoun, replacing a previously mentioned feminine singular noun.
USAGE
It is used to refer to a specific feminine singular item. It's often followed by a relative pronoun (qui, que) or "de".
Example: "Quelle voiture as-tu ? Celle de ma sœur." (Which car do you have? My sister's one.)
TRAPS
Celle must agree in gender and number. Do not confuse it with "celui" (masculine singular), "ceux" (masculine plural), or "celles" (feminine plural). It cannot precede a noun directly; use "cette" for that.
