USAGE
Used as a locative adverb:

It also forms "au-dessus de" (above/over).
TRAPS
Dessus is an adverb, not a preposition.
Do not use it directly before a noun like *"dessus la table"*.
Instead, use "sur la table" or "au-dessus de la table."
