Notes
GENERAL INFO
Dont is a relative pronoun meaning "whose," "of which," or "from whom/which." It always replaces a phrase with "de" (e.g., *de qui*, *duquel*, *desquels*).
USAGE
It introduces a relative clause, indicating possession, origin, or the object of a verb/expression that uses "de."
* *L'homme dont je parle.* (The man *of whom* I speak.)
* *Le livre dont la couverture est rouge.* (The book *whose* cover is red.)
TRAPS
Never use "de" with dont (e.g., not "de dont"). It already incorporates the "de" meaning. Don't confuse it with "que" or "qui."
