USAGE

You'll often see it in phrases like "J'espère que..." (I hope that...). It's used to express a wish or expectation. For example: "J'espère qu'il fera beau demain." (I hope it will be nice tomorrow.)

TRAPS

A common trap with "j'espère que" is to use the subjunctive mood afterward. However, espérer *always* takes the INDICATIVE mood. Do NOT say "J'espère qu'il *vienne*." Instead, say "J'espère qu'il *vient*."
