Notes
GENERAL INFO
Feu (masculine noun) primarily means "fire." It can also refer to a "light" (like a traffic light) or, less commonly, an "ember." As an adjective (invariable before a noun), it means "late" or "deceased."
USAGE
Common phrases include: "mettre le feu" (to set fire), "les pompiers éteignent le feu" (firefighters put out the fire). For traffic: "un feu rouge/vert" (a red/green light). For deceased: "feu mon père" (my late father).
TRAPS
Be careful with the plural, "les feux," which means "fires" or "lights." The adjective "feu" (deceased) is invariable and always precedes the noun ("feu la reine," "feu les princes"). Do not confuse "faire du feu" (to make fire generally) with "faire un feu" (to build a specific fire).
