Notes

GENERAL INFO

Nouveau is an adjective meaning "new" in the sense of different, recently acquired, or another. It describes something that is novel or fresh to an experience.

USAGE

It generally precedes the noun: *un nouveau livre* (a new book), *une nouvelle idée* (a new idea). Remember its forms: *nouveau* (m.s.), *nouvelle* (f.s.), *nouvel* (m.s. before vowel/h), *nouveaux* (m.pl.), *nouvelles* (f.pl.).

TRAPS

Do not confuse nouveau with *neuf*. Nouveau means "new" as in "different" or "newly acquired" (*un nouveau travail*). *Neuf* means "brand new," never used (*une voiture neuve* - a car fresh from the factory).
