Notes
GENERAL INFO
Seul is an adjective meaning "alone" or "only." It agrees in gender and number with the noun it modifies: seule (f.s.), seuls (m.pl.), seules (f.pl.).
USAGE
When meaning "alone," it often follows the verb or describes the subject: "Elle est seule." (She is alone.) When meaning "only," it usually precedes the noun: "C'est le seul restaurant ouvert." (It's the only open restaurant.)
TRAPS
Do not confuse seul with "solitaire." Seul describes the state of being by oneself. "Solitaire" describes a person who *likes* being alone or is habitually isolated.
