Notes
GENERAL INFO
Vraiment is an adverb meaning "really," "truly," or "very." It emphasizes the truth or intensity of something.
USAGE
It modifies verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs.
Examples:
"C'est vraiment beau." (It's really beautiful.)
"Je te crois vraiment." (I truly believe you.)
"Elle parle vraiment vite." (She speaks really fast.)
TRAPS
Don’t confuse vraiment with très:
*Très* = neutral intensity (très bien)
Vraiment = stronger, more emphatic (vraiment bien)
Vraiment can sound subjective or emotional, so très is often preferred. It can also express doubt, surprise, or irony depending on tone:
"Tu viens vraiment ?" (doubt)
"Ah vraiment !" (surprise / annoyance)
Be careful with exaggeration in formal contexts: Vraiment adds subjectivity or emphasis, so in formal writing it can sound less precise:
"C’est vraiment important" - It's really/truly important (slightly emotional)
"C’est très important" It's very important (more neutral/formal)
