USAGE

You can use hé to call out to someone, like "Hé, tu m'entends ?" (Hey, do you hear me?). It also expresses mild surprise or a query, "Hé ? C'est déjà l'heure ?" (Huh? Is it already time?).

TRAPS

Do not confuse hé with "et" (and) or "est" (is). Hé is always a standalone exclamation, often followed by a comma or question mark, and is pronounced with a clear 'e' sound, unlike the silent 'h'.
