GENERAL INFO
Histoire is a feminine noun meaning "history" (the academic subject or past events) or "story" (a narrative).
USAGE
It's used for both: "J'étudie l'histoire de France" (I study the history of France) and "Raconte-moi une histoire" (Tell me a story). It can also mean "matter" or "affair" in phrases like "C'est une autre histoire" (That's another matter).
TRAPS
Do not confuse it with "story" meaning a floor or level of a building, which is "étage" (masculine). Remember histoire is always feminine: "une belle histoire".
