GENERAL INFO

Perdu means "lost" or "missing." It is an adjective (e.g., *lost, bewildered*) and the past participle of the verb "perdre" (to lose).

USAGE

As an adjective: "Je suis perdu" (I am lost/bewildered). "Une ville perdue" (a lost city).

As a past participle with "avoir": "J'ai perdu mes clés" (I lost my keys).

TRAPS

As an adjective, perdu must agree in gender and number: *perdue* (f.s.), *perdus* (m.p.), *perdues* (f.p.). When used with "avoir" as a past participle, perdu is usually invariable unless the direct object precedes the verb (e.g., "Les clés que j'ai perdues").
