Presque is an adverb meaning "almost" or "nearly".

USAGE

It generally precedes the verb, adjective, or adverb it modifies.

Examples: "Il est presque midi." (It's almost noon.) "J'ai presque fini." (I've almost finished.) "C'est presque parfait." (It's almost perfect.)

TRAPS

Do not confuse with "à peine" (hardly, barely). "Presque" indicates nearing completion or being very close, while "à peine" suggests just barely succeeding or having very little.
