Te is a singular informal direct or indirect object pronoun meaning "you." It replaces the person being addressed.

USAGE

It generally appears before the conjugated verb: "Je te vois" (I see you). With an affirmative imperative, it changes to "toi" and comes after the verb: "Lève-toi !" (Get up!).

TRAPS

Don't confuse te with "tu" (the subject pronoun, as in "Tu parles"). Te always modifies the verb as an object. Te becomes "t'" before a vowel or mute 'h' (e.g., "Je t' appelle").
